PreventaPest are a family-run team looking after South and Mid Wales since 2005

PreventaPest was set up by husband-and-wife team Huw and Barbara Richards in September 2005, and we started trading on 1st October that year. What began as a small family firm has grown into a full team looking after homes and businesses across South and Mid Wales. Two decades on, it's still run by the same family, to the same standards it started with.

Three services, one team

Most people know us for pest control , it's the service that gives PreventaPest its name, and it's still the work we're best known for, from wasp nests and rodents to birds and bed bugs. Over the years we've added two more sides to the business, each with its own specialist team.

PAT testing, under our PreventaShock brand, keeps the electrical equipment in offices, shops, schools, rental properties and industrial sites safe and compliant. It's planned, low-disruption work built around proper certificates and sensible retest cycles, and it helps employers and landlords meet their duties under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

Confidential shredding, under our PreventaTheft brand, deals with sensitive paperwork properly. We collect your documents securely and destroy them off-site, so you can clear out old records with confidence and stay on the right side of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK GDPR.

Where we work

We're a Welsh firm serving Welsh communities. We cover South and Mid Wales, from Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot across to Cardiff, Bridgend and Newport, and out through Carmarthenshire and the wider counties. Pest control reaches the furthest of the three, out into the more rural parts of the region, while PAT testing and confidential shredding are mostly commercial work around the towns and business centres.

Doing things properly

We take the rules that govern this work seriously. The regulations around electrical safety, data protection and the humane treatment of wildlife all move on over time, and we make it our job to keep up with them.

We back that up with independently verified accreditations. Our quality management is assessed under SQMAS, the Supplier Quality Management Audit Scheme; our environmental management is verified to Phase 2 of BS 8555; and our health and safety is accredited through CHAS, the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme. Each is assessed and renewed by an independent body, not self-declared.
