Confidential Waste Destruction

GDPR-Compliant Confidential Shredding Across South Wales

PreventaTheft provides secure, confidential paper destruction for homes and businesses across South Wales, a safe, fully accountable way to dispose of your sensitive files and documents, and an environmentally friendly one too, with everything we shred sent on for recycling.

Why shred with PreventaTheft?

Under the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK GDPR, everyone who handles personal data, names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and more, has to be able to account for how that data is kept and disposed of. Throwing confidential paperwork in the ordinary bin simply isn't good enough.

The penalties for getting it wrong are significant: the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, can issue fines of up to £17.5 million or 4% of annual worldwide turnover, whichever is higher. For most organisations, though, the real risk is more everyday, a careless data breach that damages trust and reputation. A simple clear-desk, shred-all policy goes a long way to preventing that, and we can supply cardboard recycling bins, secure lockers and our confidential waste bags (free of charge) to help you stick to it.

Whatever we destroy, we make it auditable. We provide a Duty of Care Controlled Waste Transfer Note when we collect your confidential waste, and issue a Certificate of Destruction once it has been destroyed, giving you a clear, robust audit trail for everything from paper records to hard drives and mobile phones.

Collection options

We offer two collection options, for both personal and business customers:

Ad hoc collections

Call us whenever you need a collection. We'll also check in with you periodically, so one never gets overlooked.

Regular collections

We can collect on a set schedule to keep on top of things for you, daily, weekly, monthly or any other interval that suits.

Service options

However much you need to dispose of, there's a setup to match:

  • Bags only
We supply confidential paper bags, and you store them wherever suits until collection.
  • Cardboard receptacle
For a small charge, a cardboard container to hold the bag and keep things tidy.
  • Lockable cabinets
A secure cabinet to lock your bags away for added security.
  • Wheelie bins
For larger or regular volumes, a big lockable wheelie bin for secure storage.

Hard drives and other media

It isn't just paper. We also securely destroy electronic data storage, hard drives, tablets, mobile phones, bank cards, tapes and CD/DVDs, so the data on your old equipment is gone for good, with the same Certificate of Destruction to prove it.

Where we cover

We provide confidential shredding and document destruction for businesses and households right across South Wales, including Swansea, Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend, Llanelli and Carmarthen.

Frequently Asked Questions

HMRC's general rule for limited companies is to keep accounting records for at least six years from the end of the last company financial year they relate to, longer in some cases, such as records covering more than one accounting period, or where an asset like equipment is expected to last longer than six years. Once you're past the retention period you need for your own records, the safest option is to have them securely destroyed rather than left sitting in storage, which is exactly what our confidential shredding service takes care of.
There's no law that says the word "shredding" specifically, but if what you're disposing of contains personal information, customer details, employee records, patient notes and so on, the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR require that data to be disposed of securely, and simply binning it doesn't meet that standard. Shredding (along with secure destruction of hard drives and other media) is the recognised way to show you've disposed of it properly, and it's why we issue a Certificate of Destruction for everything we destroy.
On-site shredding destroys your paperwork there and then, usually from a shredding vehicle parked at your premises. Off-site (or collection-based) shredding takes your confidential waste away to be destroyed securely elsewhere, with a Duty of Care Transfer Note issued at collection and a Certificate of Destruction once it's done. We work on a collection basis, so your waste is stored securely (in bags, cabinets or bins, whichever suits you) and taken away for destruction, with the full paper trail to prove it every step of the way.
Once it's destroyed, your shredded paper is sent on for recycling rather than going to landfill, so alongside keeping your confidential information secure, the process is an environmentally friendly one too.
Any paper documents you'd rather not have read by anyone else, invoices, contracts, HR files, financial statements, customer or patient records, old letters, anything with names, addresses or other personal details on it. Staples and paperclips are no problem, so there's no need to remove them first. If you've also got old hard drives, mobile phones, tapes or bank cards to get rid of, we can securely destroy those too, alongside your paper waste.
Yes, every collection is backed by proper paperwork. We provide a Duty of Care Controlled Waste Transfer Note when we collect your confidential waste, and once it's been destroyed we issue a Certificate of Destruction, giving you a clear, dated record for your own files or to show an auditor or regulator if needed.
Yes. Your confidential waste is collected securely, transported straight through to destruction, and accounted for at every stage with the Duty of Care Transfer Note and Certificate of Destruction, so there's a clear paper trail the whole way through, not just a promise that it was dealt with properly.
Both. While a lot of our shredding work is for businesses, we collect confidential waste from personal and household customers too, old bank statements, utility bills, anything with your personal details on it that you'd rather not risk putting straight in the recycling.
