Rodents and Others
PreventaPest rodent and other pest control across South Wales
Rats, mice, moles and foxes are very different pests. They use different parts of a property, leave different signs and need different control plans. PreventaPest can help identify what is happening and work out the safest practical response for your home, business, garden or land.
Rats and mice
Rodents look for food, water and shelter. Signs can include droppings, gnawing, scratching, grease marks, nesting material, burrows and repeated movement along walls or behind appliances. Check bins, food stores, animal feed, drains, door gaps, pipe entries, roof spaces and other routes that could give rodents access.
Good housekeeping helps, but it cannot compensate for a hole or damaged drain that remains open. Store food securely, keep waste covered, clean spills promptly and remove clutter around buildings. Repairs and proofing should be planned carefully so that animals are not trapped inside a wall, roof or other cavity.
Moles
Moles live underground and feed on invertebrates in the soil. Fresh molehills and raised runs are the most obvious signs. Although moles do not eat garden plants, tunnelling can disturb lawns, beds, paddocks and other ground. A professional assessment can establish which tunnels are active and discuss an appropriate control method.
Foxes
Foxes may pass through gardens, nest beneath sheds or decking, dig in lawns and leave droppings or strong smells. Secure food waste, avoid feeding wildlife close to the property and remove accessible food sources. Do not block a suspected den or use an indiscriminate product without advice; the location, timing and welfare implications need to be considered first.
How professional pest control works
PreventaPest begins with the signs, the building or land involved and the conditions that may be attracting the pest. The recommended pest control plan may include inspection, monitoring, targeted treatment, proofing, repairs and prevention advice. Rodenticide and other products must only be used as directed on their label and stored away from children, pets and non-target wildlife.
For workplaces, landlords and larger sites, written inspection and treatment records can help show what was found, what action was taken and what prevention work remains outstanding.
