Specialist Bird Control and Proofing Solutions
Birds might seem harmless enough, but once they start roosting and nesting on a building they cause real problems, fouling that damages brickwork and creates a slip hazard, blocked gutters and drains, noise, and the mess and health risks that come with droppings. On commercial premises especially, a pigeon or gull problem can quickly become an expensive one. PreventaPest offers a full bird control and proofing service across South Wales to deal with it properly.
We've staff with specialist skills in bird proofing and falconry, with over 20 years' experience in bird control between them. Whatever the building and whatever the species, the aim is the same: stop the birds causing damage, and keep them from coming back.
How we deal with a bird problem
There's no single fix that suits every situation, so we start by looking at the building, the species and the scale of the problem. Most of our work is proofing and deterrence, physically denying birds the places they roost and nest:
- Netting to seal off roosting spots on roofs, ledges and under eaves
- Spikes and wire systems on ledges, sills and signage
- Gull and pigeon proofing for flat roofs and courtyards
- Falconry-based deterrence, using birds of prey to move problem birds on naturally
Our bird control with birds of prey is a particularly effective and natural deterrent, especially on larger or open sites, and pigeons are one of the most common problems we're called out to.
Bird control and the law
This is an area where it pays to use someone who knows the rules. In the UK, all wild birds, their nests and eggs are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 , it's an offence to harm them or interfere with an active nest. That's exactly why proofing and deterrence come first: they solve the problem without breaking the law.
Where birds genuinely have to be controlled, for public health or safety, for instance, it has to be done lawfully and humanely. In Wales that means working within the general and specific licences issued by Natural Resources Wales, and only where there's genuinely no other satisfactory solution. We handle all of that properly, so you stay on the right side of the law.
